What just happened? A poll conducted by research firm Just Capital revealed that technology companies value ethical issues more than any other industry. With Facebook being one glaring exception, nearly all the big names including Nvidia, Apple, Intel, Salesforce and Alphabet made it to the top 10, with Microsoft in the first spot.

For the second year in a row, Microsoft topped the list of most ethical companies in the US, according to a poll conducted by non-profit research group Just Capital.

The study interviewed 4,000 people for their perception of America's 1,000 most profitable companies across 29 issues that were classified under five categories: Workers, Customers, Communities, Environment and Shareholders.

Out of 52 software industries included in the poll, Microsoft came out on top along with several big names in the top ten. Amazon, which was listed as a retail company, came in at 75, while Facebook took a beating over how it treats its customers and ranked 149 overall, despite ranking on top in terms of employee pay.

"The list tends to have tech and tech-related companies at the top because the issue people tell us is most important is how you treat your workforce," said Alison Omens of Just Capital to CNN, adding that "...companies that are technology, and technology-adjacent, pay their employees above a living wage and give them opportunities for career advancement."

Remaining in the top 10 for Alphabet could be challenging in the future though, since the recent discovery of Google's Project Nightingale followed by regulators investigating the matter would likely impact the company's public perception.

For other industries, including banks, media and energy corporations, the rankings were not as impressive. Apache, the only energy company to make it into the list, stood at 76, while Nielsen ranked at 79, was the sole media company.

Only three financial institutions were able to break into the top 100, with JPMorgan Chase at rank 70, Bank of America ranking 71 and First Horizon securing 87th place.

HA! Let's make the close (x) button on our Windows 10 update indicate consent to upgrade so new can push W10 out to more PCs even though our design policies forbid that.

Let's push W10 to machines and break legacy software that companies rely on in day-to-day business.

Let's charge $300 of our OS no mater how buggy, full of holes, or lame it is (ME/Vista).

That Microsoft? lmao

I wonder how much this poll cost Microsoft to "win" it? How much did these other companies pay? Were the voters from a 3rd world country without a computer?

I'm wondering if they are ordered in how much money they paid to "win". The wool has been pulled over the eyes.

It's Fake News!

It is quite obvious to everyone since there are Zero comments here supporting that rigged conclusion, and 8 (or 9 if you count mine) voting against that conclusion

You don't rig everything you touch in this Monopoly by being "ethical"

I take shits more ethical then Microsoft and Apple. I actually find the fact that Apple is listed 3rd most ethical to be far more shocking then Microsoft being number 1.

Not only is Apple third on the list - their blocking of Electron apps from their App Store has now been linked to a general hostility to web technology - but Intel, which had gotten into trouble for unfair competition with AMD back in the pre-Bulldozer era, is fourth on the list. (On the other hand, at least it's restraining itself now, despite fierce competition from Ryzen. But then I think they won't need to stoop to anything underhanded any longer; when they get 10nm working, AMD is going to have its work cut out for it.)

On the other hand, Nestle Foods didn't make the top ten, so apparently the controversy about breastfeeding in the Third World hasn't been forgotten. I don't know of any reason why Procter and Gamble couldn't be on the list, though, so at least one ethical company got there.

No matter what IT people say, Windows 10 Pro violates HIPPA out of the box, by capturing full telemetry which includes keystrokes (to improve your experience and make better suggestions!). Small doctors offices had this issue. Sure, the settings can be changed. The problem, as I see it, is that MS put the burden on users and no one spoke up. No one went after Microsoft to set telemetry to basic by default and to not capture keystrokes. Things are upside down on today's world when an opaque company is considered "most ethical", solely on the public image they present, and not on what they actually do.

In my opinion Microsoft Dosen't even make it into the top five of us companies I trust the most.
my list is
1.union Carbide, the people who brought you Bophol
2.Exelon,3 Mile Island ,the gift that keeps giving for the next 3000 years
3.Ford,The safest car on the road the almighty pinto
4.Monsanto,Would you like some cancer with your roundup and corn flakes
5.The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,Proud Makers Of The Atomic bomb
sorry, but microsoft is right up with comcast,at&t,Intel and other companies that just are not that high on my most trusted list

To be fair the question is not whether Microsoft is ethical. The question is whether they are the most ethical.

Lets ask the respondents of the poll

Respodent #'s 0001 - 2000
Jesus H Christ....OF COURSE Microsoft is the most ethical
Steve Ballmer

Respondents # 2001 - 3999
Why yes, we are the most ethical Company in the entire history of the World
Bill Gates

Respondent # 4000
It's Karma Baby!
Satya Nadella

No, not that one, I'm totally unrelated
