What game first got you hooked on gaming?

As a teenager I used to love watching people play Defender on the arcade machines but I didn't have the money to play so it could never became an addiction. A few years back I built my own MAME arcade cabinet to play the game (and others). It turned out I was completely useless at the bloody game

Defender in the arcade was tough. I never really got used to the reverse and thrust buttons to control lateral movement. But I played it a lot on my Atari 1200XL, where the joystick controlled the direction and speed as well as elevation.

For me, it was probably GTA: Vice City. The open world concept combined with the outstanding modding potential really opened up a new door. GTA: San Andreas solidified that and then the original Crysis opened up an entirely new door for me, as it was the prime motivator behind my decision to build my first gaming rig (and from there, I was off to the races........)

For me it was Warcraft 2. I played the campaign when I was a kid and didn't have a taste for the competitive multiplayer side of it, I just enjoyed building my base, controlling units, armies and exploring the map. Later I started fiddling with the map editor and started making my own maps to play. It was a bit silly in hindsight, but I enjoyed it as a way of self expression I guess.

This is dating me but the original Space Invaders in the arcade was my first true arcade/computer game I played. However the one that really got me hooked on gaming was Pac-Man in the arcade. I dumped countless quarters in that game and knew the patterns up to the 9th key. I could make a quarter last forever on that game. I was hooked from then on. Owned an Atari 2600, NES, Sega Genesis, original Xbox and a Nintendo Wii. But my favorite has always been pc gaming on an Apple ] [ and on PC. Still game on a PC this day.

NFS most wanted, GTA San Andreas and Project IGI were my first games on a PC. There was also Road Rash, Pinball and Minesweeper(I never learned this game till today)

"Dungeon Master" -- perhaps the first 3-D first-person perspective RPG with real-time game play. An amazing feat for 1987 ... and I still have no idea they fit the entire game, plus all that content, onto a single 320k floppy.

My first games were Lemmings, Doom 2, and Heretic, but the games that truly got me hooked were the original Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, X-Plane 7, and, funnily enough, Stack Attack on a Siemens cellphone.

Do you remember which game first got you truly hooked on gaming?

Mine was this PC game called "Deerhunter": a hunting game. My dad was an avid hunter and he liked that game a lot. I was around 12 or thirteen years old when I first played it and was immediately hooked. I would be in school and I'd be thinking about the game. I could hardly wait to get home. I remember there was this happy anticipation that I still look for when I try new games out.

So which game first turned you into a gamer?

Thexder and Space Quest 2 (Now lets see how many people actually know what those games were! )

Truthfully there's a ton a really fun games from that era and not long after we got Wing Commander, Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem 1 and 2, and much more!

Minecraft on the xbox 360. Plus games that cam with the console like Peggle and the motor cycle demo version of the game wher you had to navigate through parkour courses. Had controller feedback which was interesting.
