People won't abandon Windows 7, OS still found on almost a quarter of all devices

Not really. When M$ tried to RAM (**) Windows 10 down everyone's throats, I had one boxed copy of Win 7 64 bit Pro on hand. I quickly undertook building a new machine, with a "close out" board and CPU from Micro Center. (Which BTW, gives the best combo buys on those two items together, one assumes hoping you'll purchase the rest of the system parts from them. (In my case, no such luck). Dut I digress.

I obviously had to go to M$ update after the Win 7 install. Funny thing though, I pick and choose which updates to install, instead of, taking the lazy way out with, "select all". I actually read the "what this update does box", next the the KB-designation.

I hit one KB-sumpin' sumpin" which said, "this update helps you install Windows 10. I immediately recognized it as the "nag me to death" notice, that everyone had been pissing and moaning about.

Personally, I never got the horse sh!t, on any of my Windows 7 machines. Since I turned off "automatic updates, somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 years ago.

So, the people with auto update, got an advanced beta of Windows 10, "for free", which then proceeded to install a new and complete OS, every time M$ and Nadella felt so moved, which couldn't be avoided.

Now, M$ has introduced hardware requirements for Windows 11, (which BTW, was never supposed to happen), which looks for all the world, like they're trying to introduce, "planned obsolescence" into your desktops, as if they were some stinking cell phone.

At the end of the day, the only mistake the IT department made at that TV station, was placing too much trust in M$, "to do the right thing", and not sh!t bomb their update channel, with crap, bullying, advertisements for their newest OS.

In most corporations Windows updates coming from microsoft, don't just come in and start updating your workstations. There is usually a server in place that will prevent this. Then IT will allow updates after they have checked them. So this is an IT failure this isn't the same process of you getting windows updates to your desktop pc at home.

Still in all, KB-"this update helps you install Windows 19", seems innocuous enough, until you allow it, then all hell breaks loose.

After the Win 10 install, your free will is taken away from you. To me, that seems rather "Orwellian".

And the constat chant, "you can postpone the the update", seems to be a rationalization, rather than an endorsement of the process.

Yes but in properly configured environment this won't happen. I know this because I've done this myself as my career is in IT.

What can I tell you, some people such as yourself, are either just lucky, or perhaps special. This TV station didn't fare quite as well:

It didn't happen to me either, but I know why. I had Windows automatic update turned off years before Windows 10 was released.

I've never turned off windows update and have never been forced into one. I don't have many issues or I should say nothing serious has ever happened to any of my computers that was a result of a update.
ALL of my majors were either of my own doing or a failing part.
Issues happen, happen all the time and will likely continue to happen from time to time. MS, Apple, Google etc ... all have various issues.

Are you saying that the pages and pages which have been written here about the nuisance of Windows 10 mandatory update process have all been a hoax? because it sure sounds like it.

I know you're one of those individuals here who are thrilled with Windows 10, and that's your choice and prerogative But please refrain from just making sh!t up.

Where did I say anything was hoax. I clearly said I DO NOT have any or have seen any of those issues.
I haven't had any issues with XP, 7, Vista, or 10. People can complain all they want, their right to, just like I have a right to say my opinion.
I havent made anything up.

I couldn't help but notice you carefully omitted Windows 8.

IMO, regardless of the efficacy or "wonders" of Windows 10, IMO, the whole process of its implementation was so god awfully heavy handed, I just can't find it in my heart to "make nice with M$" because of it.

Unlike some others, I don't think that prior versions of Windows should be, "free". However, for those OS which had had support discontinued, I think M$ should activate them permanently, so they can't di*k us around in the future with such nonsense as no longer maintaining activation servers.for them..

They've done quite a few things to force people away from 7, The most annoying being no longer supporting the program guide in Windows Media Center. Oh, and no longer offering "Windows XP Mode", downloads for the win 7 Pro editions.

The fact remains, M$ has had to call back its own updates, because they did cause problems for many people

OK, we're talking about a small affiliate TV station here. The simple facts may be that they can't afford to hire you, or someone with your experience. The part for not taking that into consideration for its perhaps smaller business customers, does go back to M$.

After all, the reason this, "made the news", is because it happened in the middle of a newscast. (Which made it, "news worthy")

I never used 8, never owned 8. I was with 7 pro for a long time. When I was going to switch I heard that another Windows was likely coming so I just waited. Only time I've actually waited. I'll be switching to 11 when it releases. No reason for me not to.
I also will say/confess I did own ME. Honestly didn't have any issue with it. 7 was just better. ME and Vista, while most will say they were bad and rightfully so, I did not have any problems with those OSes.
