Microsoft is rolling out new Start menu ads to all Windows 11 users despite backlash

Waiting for "I will stay on 10" comments hahaha
And it's all because of the context menu. That's the best reason most of those comments can come up with. Asking what else they specifically dont like about Win11 you either get no answer or get same vague response about how the UI is worse somehow. Most of those people have probably never used Win11 a day in their life. But they do know all the talking points off the top of their heads so I'll give them credit there.
Name necessary reasons to switch from 10 to 11 for the average person.
The only one that really comes to mind is the thread scheduler for hybrid architecture.
Center taskbar icons, dark mode task manager, tabbed explorer, better HDR etc.
Windows 10 is perfectly fine, don't understand the disbelief at people’s reluctance to upgrade for zero benefit.

“We centered start button and added AI in 3 places!!!” - MS
Wow, sign me up.
Centered icons allowed me to get rid of one 3rd party program I used on Win10 to achieve the same effect. Explorer tabs allowed me to get rid of a sketchy explorer mod that added tabs in Win10. Also dark mode task manager finally does not hurt my eyes and the update process is much faster due to smaller updates. But you keep telling yourself that AI is the only change and it's ok to sit on Win10 version that is about to stop receiving security updates (unless you use enterprise/LTSC that is supported until 2029).
More consistency but less visibility and control - simplified interface with less options is not what most of us want. Deactivating registry edits that brought back the older interface where power uses wanted it during updates is churlish and unhelpful. Can't even move the task bar to the side or top anymore. Changing the default programs away from MS options more often than not breaks that function and then these reset with any major update. The icon based right click is fecking annoying and the reg hack to bring back the old one as alluded to above no longer works in the latest version. Win 11 is a downgrade from 10 in most ways so much so that the only way to get a useful file explorer back is to pin the Windows Tools to the task bar and use that link as you would file explorer from windows 3.11 for workgroups.
And even though the feedback hub is full of complaints the feckwits at MS are more focused on adding adverts to the menu than doing anything useful.
You have clearly not used 11 by parroting these talking points.
The "simplified interface" as you call it only applies to context menu and can by bypassed by holding the SHIFT key. No registry edits necessary.
All my Win10 era and previous registry edits still work so im unsure what you're talking about here.
I dont use any default MS programs and no update has thus far forced it back to MS options instead of my custom ones.
Also feedback hub suggestions are implemented. Right now I can remember that they added volume mixer, explorer tabs and probably things I dont use or know about based on user feedback.

I am typing this response on a Windows 11 machine.....

I said name necessary things, you named HDR, centered icons and a dark mode task manager...lol

I wish we could just get an OS. It's all too much now, XP was just an OS. 10 and 11 are too fluffy. 10 and 11 are just an ecosystem to exploit you now. All the dumb news sections, active hours spying, usage spying, it's all to figure out how to maximize profit instead of creating just a great OS. They want it to be like a service now instead of a local OS.

So am I and I have not encountered the things you said. I have used Win11 since 22H2 from July last year. I used Win10 for roughly four years before that and Win7 for ten years before Win10.

These are necessary things to me as I use them daily.

Necessary is what I mentioned like a thread scheduler for your system to function properly. You're talking about changing the background color of a single, not really all that used window and to move your icons to the center. That's a personal preference. Nothing about those are necessary for your hardware or software to function properly.

I have my icons on the upper left so Win 11 would adding a 3rd party program.
I don't use explorer tabs.
I'm not sure why you spend so much time staring at the task manager that you need a dark mode. Constantly trying to manage the things Windows 11 isn't managing well for you???
You keep telling yourself that everyone uses Win 11 just like you. That must be true.

Win 10 security updates will continue for years more as it is still well over Win 11 market share. Microsoft would get killed at the first security issue they didn't patch with so many users exposed. Why do you think they are pushing so hard to get people to upgrade.
Sure, eventually I will upgrade. Just like I did from 7 to 10. But I'm guess it will be to Win 12 rather than 11 by the time security updates end. And honestly, I'd still be perfectly happy on Win 7 (with security updates) as an OS doesn't really need to do much more after reaching a certain point. Modern OS updates are just an excuse to push new applications to consumers without winning in the marketplace.

Skjorn, dude trust me 11 is perfectly fine, don't fall for the silly comments that have been posted to this site... I read TechSpot for ages, I love this websites, but the Windows comments where just too much for me I had to register

I think the updates also involve means to use new hardware. Meanwhile, there's a tendency for consumers to want new applications and hardware, which is the main reason why they're even using computers and posting in tech boards. And the same tech boards exist because they report on and talk about new hardware and software.

And then there are security updates, which take place for all operating systems, and which entail labor and other costs.
