Faraday Future, the mysterious Chinese-backed startup set to unveil its concept car at a media event later this evening at CES, may have just had the wind taken out of its sails.
Twitter user @superannuation claims to have stumbled upon a prematurely-released app from Faraday Future (the app has since been pulled from the App Store but not before screenshots were captured). Presumably, Faraday Future intended for the app's launch to coincide with its concept reveal. Whoops.
Assuming the images here are legit (independent sources confirmed to International Business Times UK that this is the real deal), Faraday Future's concept is, well, very futuristic. Some in the media are noting its resemblance to the Batmobile although personally, it loosely reminds me of the Jaguar XJ220 or maybe the 1986 Chevrolet Corvette Indy Concept.
Slides indicate it's powered by a "Quad Core drive" with over 1,000 horsepower, capable of propelling the machine from 0-60 mph in less than three seconds and achieving a top speed of over 200 mph.
One of the slides also mentions "customizable modular battery string technology" which could be the most intriguing news (and what's most likely to make it into a consumer product).
It's worth reiterating that this is simply a concept and won't reflect what will be sold to the public come 2017. The consumer model will, however, share its "core design DNA" and perhaps several of the ideas or features from the concept.
Faraday Future's CES media event is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. PST.
