Except for a slim minority of people, the justification for getting an iPad Pro isn’t its feature set, it’s the experience of using a well-made, high-end object. Until I hit the limits of iPadOS (which I hit regularly), I enjoy using an iPad Pro more than I do any other computer.

The 2021 iPad Pro features much-improved performance, faster 5G radios, a creative new front-facing camera, and on the larger 12.9-inch model, a seriously great display. It's still the best iPad ever, but costs more than ever.

There’s no question that this is the best, most impressive iPad Apple has ever built, and that there’s enough horsepower here to future-proof this thing for at least a few generations.

By adding impactful hardware upgrades like the M1 chip, even more futureproof connectivity features, and, in the case of the big-screen model, an enchanting mini-LED display, Apple made the latest iPad Pro an even better version of a close-to-perfect product. Once again, this is the big-screen tablet to buy, if you can afford it.

So, why does the iPad Pro even exist? Indeed, with the increased price for the 12.9-inch model, which now starts at $1,099, it creates a high-end device by separating itself from the iPad Air. But the real reason it exists, as I said in the beginning, is to push the limits of what the flat slab of glass and metal can do.
