That a mighty big assumption.

Considering both consoles have hardware ray tracing and RDNA 2 is in the heart of both of those. Where are you getting this info that they don't have it?

We have yet to see a full review from a reviewer. lol do you guys always just make stuff up and run with it?

If RX 6900 XT performs on par with 3080 then huge fail because it cost 999 dollars

However we do not know if the AMD slide benchmark was for 6900 XT or 6800. They just said big navi which might mean 6900 XT

did we watch the same thing ?

A big caveat to all of this is that we need independent analysis, but if AMD's numbers hold up we have:

6900XT a bit faster and $500 less than the 3090

6800XT a bit faster, less expensive, and more efficient compared to the 3080.

6800 is a bit more expensive than the 3070, and I didn't see any slides for its performance. AMD wouldn't have had a sample on hand for the comparison.

Good showing by AMD, again. I look forward to reviews and for the announcement of the 3060 and 6700XT.
 
That was cool...I did like the RTX 3000 series launch, and I liked this RDNA2 launch even more! Obviously we will need to see the independent reviews, but I don't think the numbers shown here would be a million miles off...so I already feel that I'm spoiled for choices (which is a good thing - Welcome back, Mr. Competition :) )

Let's hope that that availability will be good and that prices remain close to the MSRP, and then Xmas will indeed look good (in 4K, naturally - sorry, couldn't resist)
 
Having watched the presentation, I am quite surprised that there is such close performance parity between the new graphics cards from AMD and those from Nvidia, despite them being designed independently in secrecy over the last year.

It's not surprising that the card supports direct access to main memory, given that AMD invented this feature for its game console chips; that Nvidia has it too is what's surprising. But AMD has added the ability for the CPU to access the video memory... but it works only for AMD CPUs. Neat trick.
Also, of course, their release schedule is different from Nvidia's. Nvidia released the 3080 and 3090 simultaneously, with the 3070 last. AMD is releasing the 6800 and 6800 XT first, with the 6900 XT last.
Interestingly, all three AMD cards have the same amount of memory, 16 gigabytes; that's very different from the Nvidia product.
But unlike the 3090, even the 6900 XT is not claimed to support 8K gaming in any form.

AMD added ray tracing acceleration to the shaders, there is indeed hardware support for the feature. They also have acceleration of ML built in as well.
 
Some interesting snippets about the Infinity Cache - there are 16 x 64-bit memory channels, running at up to 1.94 GHz. So that's an internal bandwidth of 1987 GB/s between the 128 MB cache and rest of the core. AMD state that in the games they tested the cache hit rate averaged around 58% at 4K, giving at effective bandwidth of 1152 GB/s.

It doesn't take up too much die space either:

True, but why would one go for ray tracing...is it really out there? Is it really noticable everywhere? Is it in majority of games? Or just for the sake of saying "I have ray tracing"...

I agree, it's not widely supported but for $50 more it's pretty nice in the games that implement it and DLSS well. That extra $50 can buy you the best visual experience some of the time as RT can look really nice. People pay more than that for the same model of an OC'd GPU that gives like 6% more performance so I think from a market standpoint, people would be wiling to pay $50 for RT and DLSS but probably not $100. I'll wait for benchmarks, if the 6800XT performs noticeably better, draws less power, and has more VRAM without any major driver issues, then that $50 more for a 3080 makes less sense.

I just wish it was priced to kill - they could have eaten up both the 3070 and 3080 market with one card priced more in the middle of the two but I guess what's the point when the demand will probably outpace supply.

I think AMD should make as soon as possible a Vulcan (win7 is not dead) state of the art game engine (with a nice name ex Lisa), heavy optimized for AMD graphics cards, under Boost license and give it to game developers.

Because right now almost all game developers they think and spend work hours only to optimize for NVIDIA because it has 80+% of the market... ✨

True, but there is something very important that I hope the benchmarks take into account. Those cards will perform differently when in an intel system and when paired with zen 3. Then the margin of performance might go up so for a whole new setup, not only gpu upgrade, this might be much better than rt or dlss. I hope techspot have this in mind. It will be interesting to see.
