People won't abandon Windows 7, OS still found on almost a quarter of all devices

Why is it so difficult for you to discuss things like an adult without throwing out insults?

Make your point keep it civil and move on.
My point is, XP is perfectly safe to use ONLINE without any Microsoft security updates "IF" you are a Windows Security Expert!

Many years of testing supports this statement

Anyone who cannot secure Windows XP without Microsofts Security Updates is OBVIOUSLY not a Security Expert and (in many cases) cannot be trusted to make factual statements

Civil.....and to the point!

That's me!

and how can I tell you how wrong or incompetent you are without it sounding like name calling?

I'm simply stating facts, supported by over a decade of testing "ONLINE" without any Microsoft security updates in Windows XP-SP2!
"Call me what you like just don't call me late for dinner"
shutup10 isn't going to stop everything but it will help - for an extra level of defense get yourself a Raspberry Pi and set it up as a Pi-Hole and block everything at the network level.

No Need, I have Windows XP!

Nothing can guarantee you privacy nowadays:
a) If you have a computer that is younger than 10 years, your CPU alone has security holes that were added by design.
b) Every operating system, even Linux, usually comes with tons of apps that have security holes (some of them are deliberate)
c) Surfing on the web is not safe, as the popular web browsers use open-source modules that have security holes. Even the security protocol implementations have holes.
d) If you own a smartphone, your operating system manufacturer can access your data whenever they want. Especially Android. On top of the apps that ask you to voluntarily grant them access to your camera, microphone, contants and files. Which you gladly do.
e) Even if you have an old "stupid" Nokia, your mobile operator can access your microphone. Spying was a part of GSM standard since 1998.
f) Your beautiful new Smart TV has a mike to recognize voice commands, but also to spy on you. They even warn you about not talking about important stuff in front of a TV. Now... it's even funnier if your Smart TV has a built-in camera, isn't it?
g) Android is becoming popular in cars too. Your car can now listen to you, watch you, surf the net, and make phone conversations. Newer generation of cars is even better, as someone from the outside can take control of your engine and brakes.

So, regarding privacy or security, there's no such thing in the year 2020.

True there isn't much privacy - but just because there isn't a lot of privacy doesn't mean I'm going to be walking around in the buff anytime soon :)

Maybe if tech bloggers would stop posting inaccurate information about windows 10,more people would adopt it. I've been running it for years on a number of different devices, and it's by far the best windows yet. Not once have I had any issues with updates. Privacy settings are easy to access and clearly explain what they do.

I'm sick and tired of articles harping on how awful and broken windows 10 is, when in reality, the issues you're complaining about typically only affect a VERY small percentage of users. More often then not, they're users on a preview build too, which tends to get downplayed in your crusades against windows 10.

Agreed!

I'm running Win 10 1909 on my primary desktop and its great I have no issues. Also Build 2004 on a laptop and that is also fine. Once I go back using old versions of windows they feel so slow and sluggish. Even Windows 7 on a SSD feels slower.

Alot of the views of windows 10 in this thread are antiquated.

That's very odd that an older O.S. would seem slow and sluggish compared to Windows 10

On the EXACT same computer (tested 3 minutes ago), Fully loaded Windows XP booted up in 22 seconds

On the EXACT same computer (tested 2 minutes ago), Fully loaded Windows 10 v2004 booted up in 26 seconds

Every "compatible" application runs as fast or better on my XP box

And, on an even older Nehalem dualcore computer, a fresh install of XP (NOT fully loaded with extra drivers or antivirus) boots in 3 seconds flat, whereas Win 10 takes several times longer

Maybe the slow/sluggish problems you are having is due to the operator

You should look into that with an open mind

lmao I don't have any windows 7 systems in my environment so the operator isn't me.

Nice try with the under the radar insult also.

And if you are so sure of that Windows XP machine provide your public IP for it. Enough talk time to backup your claims!

"Enough talk time to backup your claims!"

My claims are well verified

In fact, I have been posting on how to secure Windows and eliminate it's problems at this and other websites for many years

If you cannot go back and read every post I have made on the subject and verify for yourself, then it is a waste of time to try proving anything to you

You will simply look directly at the evidence and deny it

Go waste your own time!

Just as I thought and expected.

Good luck with that super secure windows XP machine!

All talk no action!

Dude, you've wasted your life...
You coulda been a commedian!

Luck is not required with my XP box

It has been actively tested year after year and is still problem free

I have all the proof I need

If you need your own proof, then go get it

Nobody is stopping you

Then post the public IP but you and I know that won't happen because your machine will be hacked in 48 hours.

If you want to stick your head in the sand and pretend then enjoy.

It's unfortunate Microsoft isn't listening to popular demand, and supporting Windows 7 forever just like Windows 10.

Post the IP of windows 10 spyware os which is like open door and it will be hacked in 24 hours... what is your point?
If you cannot get his IP he is as secure as anyone.

lmao so you are telling me its easier to hack a up to date and patched windows 10 version than Windows XP?

ok I'm done.

Nope. I got a few new PC this year, ALL of them are now on 7. Windows 10 was deleted in the first week of ownership. Also my friends ask me to do the same on their PC. In my area no one uses windows 10 except for joking how bad software can be.
You and your friend are in the tinfoil group then. Wonder what other crazy beliefs you have.

No. Stop. This is wrong on so many levels.

There are bots that can easily scan for and detect vulnerable hosts, they don't need to know your IP to find you. Any device connected to the internet will be scanned, indexed, and probed.

"Security through obscurity" is not security.

First off XP had no driver support after ivybridge and GTX 700/hd7000 cards period. Windows 7 drivers don't exist for newer platforms either. So anyone claiming they just bought a new computer and run 7 are doing it without platform drivers, and anyone on XP is permantly frozen to am3+ and ivy bridge. Doesn't seem like a good place to be.

Anyone still using XP has no bussiness giving advice unless it's how to build a retro rig. Browsers are out of date, av is out of date, anything that can keep you safe online is at least 2 years out of date. Go ahead pull your XP drive, put it into a windows 10 system and scan it with a current updated anti virus.

Funny people still believe in this nonsense.
Windows Wannacry, Linux shell shock, openssl heart bleed and most of hacking attacks were based of unpatched security bugs.
And those attacks happened after the patches were released. The victims nonetheless were ones that haven't install the patches

My XP drive has been pulled and scanned from other systems as well as up to date bootable antivirus rescue discs and is always entirely clean of any virus

You must have known it would be clean however as I'm sure you knew it was a read only operating system that does not get malware or viruses

Haven't we had this discussion before?

I don't need patches for wannacry as I am running XP-SP2 which is not susceptible to wannacry which only affects XP-SP3

Lol windows XP is read only, yes ok kid, you've now confirmed it for everyone you are a troll. As for XP sp2 not being vulnerable I wasn't aware it wasn't using smb v1 on nt5 or newer kernals. I guess sp2 is older than windows 2000 which is also vulnerable. Who knew, not Microsoft as they say all editions of 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008, 2008 r2, 7, 8, and 8.1 are vulnerable unless patched. As the kernals are NT5, NT5.1, NT6, NT6.1, NT6.2, NT6.3.

I guess you no more than them don't you. But wait you don't.

Yes My installation of Windows XP-SP2 is READ ONLY!

It is very easy to accomplish with "Driveshield"

As for XP sp2 not being vulnerable to wannacry.....
Yes, that is also true >
https://grahamcluley.com/windows-xp-wannacry/

In fact, I was the person who first reported that XP-SP2 was unnafected by wannacry

And yes, I guess I do know more than them ?

Anything else?
