14 Pin Power Cable Not Locking in Motherboard

I had to order a 24 pin to 14 pin adapter off Amazon for my motherboard, I have plugged it into the 24 pin power supply cable with a satisfying click but it does not lock in or go in completely into the 14 pin power socket on the motherboard. When I try to turn on my pc the ethernet port lights light up, but that is the only sign of power. I am worried that it might be this and will try to attach a picture (one of the pins on the 14 pin adapter looks a little questionable.)
Edit: Techspot would not allow me to attach the image but all of the sockets but one have a metal thing in them

Rare but possible... adapters may not be assembled correctly. Examine both ends of your 14-pin connectors under magnification and strong light.

Thanks for the reply, I have given up on the old mb and my brand new motherboard, processor and DDR4 RAM just arrived. :)
