Fitbit Versa 2

Are these good enough reasons to buy it? If you’re an iOS devotee with an eye on the new Watch, probably not. Otherwise, the Versa 2 still has plenty of features to recommend it, especially if you like sleeping and don't like charging your battery! That's a not-insignificant consumer demographic that also includes me.

With an OLED display, on-board Alexa, and amazing battery life, the Fitbit Versa 2 is ready to take on all comers—including the Apple Watch.

The Versa 2 is indeed a better product than the Versa, and the design changes and new features are mostly welcome. But it’s not any more compelling of a device than before: it’s an excellent fitness tracker, but if you’re looking for a smartwatch, you can be better served by an Apple Watch or one of Samsung’s offerings for Android devices.

On paper, the Fitbit Versa 2 is a compelling upgrade over its predecessor. It features a bigger, better display, useful Alexa integration and refined software. It still lasts days longer than Samsung and Wear OS watches and looks pretty, to boot. But it struggles too much with connectivity to be a reliable daily smartwatch.

The Fitbit Versa 2 isn't a drastic upgrade from its predecessor, but the changes it makes are all for the better. The shift to an AMOLED display is great to see, Fitbit Pay is now included by default, and battery life is outstanding. FitbitOS still has room to grow, but as a new entry into Fitbit's ever-growing ecosystem, the Versa 2 stands out as a strong addition.

Alexa is the star of the show here, but it’s the small improvements in the design and software that really make the Versa 2 feel like a leap ahead. There are bugs that need fixing, particularly with Alexa, and some people will simply want something more stylish. But this is certainly Fitbit's best smartwatch yet.

If you’re looking for a new smartwatch, I would recommend the Versa 2. Don’t get the Fitbit Ionic ($270). Don’t get the Fitbit Versa Lite ($160). The Fitbit Versa 2 ($200) is the sweet spot.
