Huawei Ascend Mate 7

Overview

Pros & Cons

Reviews

The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is a six-inch handset featuring a classy aluminium shell. The Ascend Mate 7 sports a fingerprint sensor that's very similar to the iPhone's Touch ID. Huawei has opted for a 28nm HiSilicon Kirin 925 chip that uses an ARM big.LITTLE design with four ARM Cortex-A15 CPU cores clocked at 1.8 GHz, alongside four ARM Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.3 GHz.

Price-wise, the Ascend Mate 7 will set you back around $525 unlocked and off-contract, which seems like the perfect amount of money to pay. It doesn’t pack the same ultra-high-end quality as the $700 Galaxy Note 4 or the $800+ iPhone 6 Plus, but it’s a reasonable high end contender with a massive screen that presents decent value to anyone who buys it.

Delivering one of the largest visual platforms in a smartphone, the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 has a 6” FHD In-cell display, which by design has great wide viewing angles. The first surprise is that in the hand, the Mate 7 doesn't feel anywhere near as big as...

With the Mate 7, Huawei goes further away from playing the pure “value” game and enters high-end territory. A $600 price puts it less than $100 from the Galaxy Note 4, $150 below the iPhone 6+ and $50 above the Galaxy S5 – this is not always an obvious...

Sitting around the same cost as other large form factor devices like the Galaxy Note 3 , it's hard to say whether or not this device is worth buying right now. It's certainly better-built than the Note 3, though software is subjective and the...

Huawei has never been a high-profile maker of flagship smartphones and tablets in Australia, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have some excellent devices — you just have to do a little research to find them. The Ascend Mate7 is a 6.1-inch monster...

Huawei's first serious phablet is a hit as far as value goes, packing so much in it's hard not to see the work the manufacturer has put into this product. From the excellent build quality in a phone running two days of battery life, to the amount of extra...

There's not much this stunning device doesn't do to impress. The 6-inch screen fills almost all of the chassis, trumping the similarly sized, but smaller screened Galaxy Note 4. It's as good an Android implementation as you'll find, stacking it up well...

The Ascend Mate7 may not be on the bleeding edge in every regard, but it's still a smartly constructed phablet that will satisfy most power users' needs without totally busting their bank account in the process. Anyone who picks it up will be pleased...

Huawei gets better with each model, but the Mate 7 is verging on perfection. We might bemoan the battery life—the immense capacity led us to hope for much better—but it still lasts a perfectly acceptable amount of time. As for the rest, the build-quality...

Huawei has taken off the gloves with its Mate7 phablet. The 6-inch smartphone wraps a bevy of cutting-edge tech in a coat of metal armour and tops the recipe off with simplistic software inspired by none other than Apple. The Mate7 is all screen. The...

Huawei's Ascend Mate7 is a solid effort that goes toe-to-toe with flagships from Samsung, Apple, LG and Sony. If you're in the market for a new smartphone, it's definitely worth considering the Mate7, especially if you're looking at an outright...

Huawei's first foray into phablets does an all round impressive job. A good looking design with a great build quality nails the outside of the handset. With offerings from Apple and Samsung tearing up the phablet rulebook in 2014, Huawei's handset has...
