The best video game version of the Caped Crusader to come along in some time, Batman: The Telltale Series delivers the action and characterizations that you'd expect from a property based on the Dark Knight Detective.
Outside of one great fight, New World Order is light on Batman action, and hints that we may not see the Caped Crusader at all in the next episode. It ends on a shocking cliffhanger (something Telltale continues to do well) with two huge reveals that should get Batman fans talking. The twist behind Children of Arkham is a good one that I didn’t see coming. If you thought it had ties to the comic book storyline Court of Owls, keep guessing. I like where this is going.
I did encounter some brutal performance issues, but the writing has significantly improved from episode one, the voice acting is at its highest quality yet, and Gotham feels dense, detailed, and alive. The detective missions are starting to feel a little redundant, but the combat direction and animations that follow are so swift that it’s like watching a well-choreographed dance. Above all else, the elaborate plot has me utterly hooked.
A solid game that definitely has an audience. Might lack replay value, could be too short or there are some hard-to-ignore faults, but the experience is fun. How we score: The Destructoid Reviews...
We meet several familiar faces in this episode: Falcone, Catwoman (which includes one of the best subtextual conversations with Selina Kyle you’re likely to witness) and Oswald Cobblepot, though not how you’ve ever seen him before. I can’t wait to see how these characters evolve throughout the series, and with it all set to be told before the year’s end, we’re in for a treat.
