AMD Radeon R9 270X 2GB GDDR5 PCIe

Overview

Pros & Cons

Reviews

The Radeon R9 270X is a mainstream priced GPU supporting DirectX 11.2 along with AMD’s Mantle. It uses the 28nm design, packs 1280 SPU’s, 80 TAU’s and 32 ROP’s. Last but not least, the R9 270X comes with 2GB of RAM, though 4GB will be an option on some cards despite being pointless for this GPU.

Expert reviews and ratings

Getting to the results we find that on average the Radeon R9 270X was 6% faster than the Radeon HD 7870, since its core is overclocked by 5% with 17% faster memory this makes sense. Compared to Nvidia’s offerings, the Radeon R9 270X faces the GeForce GTX 660 ($200), the R9 270X will be around $20 more than most GTX 660 cards.

AMD's policy of retooling old hardware as new chips is paying dividends. The 280X is a hard card to beat at its price-point. The 270X, too, is a rather good card for the money, and not that far behind the 280X. Having said that, the latter does have a superior memory configuration...

ex Tax)After what feels like a very long wait, AMD's new Volcanic Islands graphics cards are finally here... sort of. Although AMD unveiled a full lineup of 10 days ago, the top of the range Radeon R9 290X and R9 290 are sadly yet to arrive, and...

Then there is the 12% faster GTX 760, but with its $250 price point, it's clearly out of reach of the R9 270X. Still, I think a more reasonable price for R9 270X would be around $180 or so—maybe we'll see that in the near future. The higher MSRP could also give board partners more room to release their custom designs without any large price increases.
