Late last year, Facebook started testing the closest thing to a dislike button we're likely to ever see: Reactions. After the six emoji made their way to Messenger users last month, they're now coming to the social network's comments section.
From today, users can add "Love," "Haha," "Wow," "Sad," and "Angry," as well as the standard Like, to individual post replies. As with Reactions to news feed posts, selecting one involves hovering the mouse over the Like button and choosing an emoji.
"We've heard from people they'd like more ways to show their reaction in conversations on Facebook, so we're rolling out the ability to react to comments," Facebook said in a statement.
The new feature is rolling out gradually, so it may take a day or two before you see it. Right now, it only appears to be on the desktop version of the site. No word on when comment Reactions will arrive on mobile, but it'll likely be sooner rather than later.
While the Reaction icons in news feed posts and Messenger aren't really distracting, their addition to the comments section can make everything look pretty crowded. But most users seem happy about the expansion of the feature, particularly as it allows them to give their opinion on a comment without having to engage in the conversation and perhaps have their words misinterpreted.
Facebook has reportedly been somewhat surprised by the popularity of Reactions since their introduction in 2016. Following this latest move, there's a chance they will eventually make their way to the company's other properties, such as Instagram and WhatsApp.
