Yesterday saw the annual British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) game awards held in London. And while PlayStation 4 exclusive Uncharted 4: A Thief's End took the 'Best Game' prize, it was a great night for Playdead's brilliant hit Inside, which won four awards - more than any other title at the event.
Devs from Uncharted 4 studio Naughty Dog said winning the top prize was "unexpected." The final game in the Nathan Drake saga was also nominated in seven other categories but failed to win any of them. It marks the second time in four years that the studio has taken top honors, having won the same award back in 2013 for The Last of Us.
Indie puzzler Inside, the long-awaited follow-up to 2010's Limbo, was the star of the show. It won original property, artistic achievement, game design, and narrative. "I hate most voice acting in games, so getting a narrative [award] is very important to me," said Playdead designer Arnt Jensen.
The critically acclaimed Firewatch won two awards, for debut game and best performer (Cissy Jones as Delilah). Jones thanked Bafta for "recognizing everything that goes into the video game industry."
Unsurprisingly, Overwatch took the prize for best multiplayer, and Pokémon Go was declared best mobile game. That Dragon, Cancer, the story of developer Ryan Green's young son's battle against the disease, won the game innovation award.
Overcooked, the multiplayer restaurant cooking game, was a surprise winner of the best British game and family title. Even the developers were shocked, admitting that they hadn't prepared any speeches.
