Razer has launched a new digital wallet system that allows users to both pay for digital goods like full games and DLC and earn rewards that can be redeemed for free swag. Here's how it works.

In testing since January, zVault consists of two components. The first, zGold, is a virtual currency that's backed by real-life money. Users can fund their wallets by purchasing zGold packs in 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000 denominations via PayPal, credit cards, Openbucks and Paysafecard.

The conversion rate at launch is 100 zGold = $1 USD meaning the aforementioned packs will set you back $30, $50 or $100.

zSilver, meanwhile, isn't all that different from your run-of-the-mill rewards system in which you earn points for completing various tasks or using Razer services like Arena and Cortex. Gamers can also earn zSilver points by making purchases using zGold currency.

The zSilver loyalty currency can be exchanged for discounts on hardware in Razer's online store. As of writing, for example, 26,000 zSilver points will get you $20 off a keyboard, 130,000 points will net you a Razer Mercenary backpack and 78,000 zSilver points will earn you a Razer Firefly cloth edition mousepad.

Min-Liang Tan, CEO and co-founder of Razer, described zVault as much more than a club, credit card perks program or microtransaction solution. Razer's ultimate vision is a complete gamer economy expanding from the zVault ecosystem, he said.

Interested parties can sign up for zVault over on the platform's landing page.
