Virtual reality is only as good as the level of immersion it affords. First-gen devices like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive do a respectable job of tricking our eyes and ears into thinking we've stepped into an alternate universe but there's still plenty of room for advancement.

Looking to take immersion to a whole new level is Koei Tecmo Wave, the Japanese developer best known for the Dynasty Warriors franchise.

As Engadget highlights, the company recently unveiled an arcade cabinet that introduces several additional "sensations" to the virtual reality experience including movement, aroma, wind, touch, heat, cold, mist and rain. It's a lot like those "moving theater" 3D experiences albeit on an individual basis.

Dubbed VR Sense, the arcade cabinet appears to be just that - something you'd experience on a pay-per-use basis at a local arcade or other game-oriented facility. It's initially launching with three games - GI Jockey, a horse-racing game that'll utilize the cabinet's moving seat and "air feeling," a VR version of a Dynasty Warriors game and what looks like a Resident Evil clone called Horror Sense.

Koei Tecmo Wave says the cabinet will be released sometime this summer although pricing isn't yet known. What's more, we don't yet know which VR headset the cabinet will use (Vive, Rift or its own custom headset?). With any luck, these details and more will be provided at the Japan Amusement Expo 2017 which gets under way February 10.
