Marketing hype and pre-launch rumors are critical to a product's popularity and success and Samsung is no stranger to that. In the vast mobile phone market, you need to be innovative in order to stand out and sell well. There have been many rumors surrounding Samsung's new flagship smartphone including its specs, material design, and connectivity options. The latest rumor seems right out of Elon Musk's playbook for Tesla and their vehicle's 'Ludicrous Mode'. Samsung recently filed a European trademark application for what it is calling 'Beast Mode'.
This development undoubtedly raises many questions like what does the feature do, when will we see it, and how it will be used. The trademark application unfortunately doesn't offer any specifics. Aside from legal requirements, the only interesting information is the list the goods and services that the Beast Mode will be applied to. This includes smartphones, smartphone software, computers, tablets, and laptops, or basically all of Samsung's mobile product line.
Beast Mode will probably something similar to battery saver mode, except on the opposite end of the spectrum; something to increase performance at all costs. Current rumors have the S8 shipping with 8GB of RAM and either a Snapdragon 835 SoC or an Exynos 8895 SoC.
Regardless of what way Samsung chooses to go, the S8 will likely be the highest specced mobile phone ever. Beast Mode will potentially let users get the most out of their flagship device while using intensive applications like VR. Nothing is certain about 'Beast Mode', but hopefully this and other new features can help Samsung bounce back over the Note 7 disaster.
