The NES Classic is the ultimate nostalgia gift this Christmas, but it has one glaring flaw: the cables are just a bit short, more than five feet shorter than the original NES controller. You can already buy extensions for it but peripheral maker 8bitdo has another alternative to bring the tiny retro console up to modern day standards: a wireless receiver with Bluetooth compatibility.
Dubbed Retro Receiver, the adapter is already available for classic gaming consoles like the original NES, the Super Nintendo, and the Apple II computer. Now 8bitdo has announced a new version that is designed to plug into the ports on the front of Nintendo's new NES Classic Edition.
Of course the NES Classic doesn't ship with a wireless controller so the Retro Receiver will be available in a $40 bundle that includes 8Bitdo's wireless retro NES controller. It will also be compatible with other Bluetooth controllers, including the Wii U Pro Controller, PS3 DualShock 3 and PS4 DualShock 4.
The new Retro Receiver is available for pre-order now and will ship in mid-December in time for Christmas. Finding a NES Classic, however, that's another story. The retro console is sold out at many retailers.
The NES Classic costs $60 and comes with 30 games, including some of the console's best ones like Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, Mega Man 2, The Legend of Zelda, and Pac-Man.
