Sony a decade ago this month launched its third-generation PlayStation game console, the aptly-named PlayStation 3. The system ultimately failed to outsell its two predecessors but it was significant as it served as the launching pad for the PlayStation Store, Sony's digital media marketplace.

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the PlayStation Store, Sony is hosting a two-week sale featuring discounts on some of the PlayStation's biggest hits.

Eric Lempel, SVP of the PlayStation Network, detailed the sale in a recent post on the PlayStation blog. It's there that you'll find a list of nearly 100 games on sale including favorites like Heavy Rain, Twisted Metal, Tomb Raider, Max Payne, Harvest Moon, Chrono Trigger, Rocket League and multiple entries in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, just to name a few.

Some of the discounts are pretty significant (especially for PlayStation Plus members). If there's a game you're interested in but never got around to playing - or if you want to experience some familiar classics all over again - this is a good opportunity to get them at a great price.

Sony is also offering up a number of movies with Black Friday-like pricing if that's your cup of tea.

In addition to the sale, Sony has special edition 10th Anniversary PS3 and PS4 themes for anyone that wants them. Those that have been a PlayStation Network member from the very beginning (account must be at least 9.5 years old) will receive an added bonus in the form of an exclusive PS4 avatar. Details on how to redeem the gift will be sent via e-mail according to Eric Lempel, SVP of the PlayStation Network.
