If you're considering buying a smartwatch and worry that you have too much money, Tag Heuer has you covered. The company has just released an updated version of its $1500 connected watch, this one costing a massive $9900.

Tag Heuer unveiled its first Android Wear watch back in November last year. While many people were shocked by its high retail price, the wearable proved so popular that the company was forced to ramp up production in December to meet demand.

So, what makes this latest edition over six-and-a-half times more expensive? It's the rose gold. The case and lugs are made out of the precious material - 18K rose gold, to be precise. The rest of the watch, however, is exactly the same as the $1500 version.

We voted the Tag Heuer Connected "Best for Watch Lovers" in our Best Smartwatches feature. It's well-built and the 46mm case, 360 x 360 (240ppi) resolution, and 1.5-inch LCD display look great, but it doesn't offer any features or functions you can't find on much cheaper wearables.

Few people will imagine it's worth paying an extra $8400 to upgrade the Tag Heuer's body from titanium to rose gold, but the price is in the same "luxury" bracket as Breitling's $8900 Exospace B55 smartwatch, and that isn't even made out of gold.

The new edition of the Connected Watch will be available at Tag Heuer dealerships and boutique stores, rather than online, this fall.
