The Fluid Interfaces Group at MIT has created a flying pantograph, an aerial drone equipped with a marker that mimics the movements of a human hand and sketches what it sees on a vertical landscape.
As you'll see in the clip above, the current iteration isn't all that great at drawing. Researchers say this is done on purpose as the drone uses a software algorithm and aerodynamics to add its own creative touch to a drawing. Personally, I was hoping the clip would showcase someone drawing something legible but I digress.
If refined, the technology could certainly be put to good use. Imagine an artist, for example, using it to paint a large mural on the side of a building without leaving the ground or helping an artist with a disability realize their full potential.
