A brand new trailer for Homefront: The Revolution has just landed, showing off the game's modular weapons and the different methods of approaching combat situations.

The modular weapons system in Deep Silver's game does look very impressive, allowing players to modify firearms on-the-fly to suit the situation. Attachments will be swappable while out in the field, so you can turn a shotgun into a fully-automatic model, or add a silencer to a rifle.

Modular weapons have appeared in other games, but the multitude of attachment options in Homefront appear to have a drastic effect on the various firearms. The swapping animations look very nice, too.

The game will feature some of the usual FPS staples such as IEDs and set pieces. We'll also see scavenging and crafting elements, an "open-world" environment, hacking, and the ability to race around in vehicles.

As pointed out in the trailer, players will also be able to control an RC car bomb which, as anyone who played Rage and Watchdogs' Bad Blood DLC will tell you, is always fun.

Homefront's story is a bit like a modern take on Red Dawn: after a unified Korea invades the US, resistance fighters push back against the oppressors.

While the first Homefront game, released in 2011, wasn't too bad, it was pretty underwhelming; considering the amount of advertising it received, many people expected something better. From what we've seen so far of the sequel, it looks as if The Revolution will prove to be a much bigger hit.

Homefront: The Revolution will be released for the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on May 17.
