Two more cities are on the list for super-fast internet. Google announced today that it will explore the possibility of bringing its gigabit Google Fiber internet service to Chicago and Los Angeles. Don't get too excited just yet, though, there is a long checklist Google must work through (along with city officials) to see if it's possible to bring Fiber to these two metro areas.

Google is hopeful, though. Jill Szuchmacher, director of Fiber expansion, wrote in a company blog post that Fiber could be a great addition to both cities. "With the help of gigabit internet, Chicago and LA can boost their creative cultures with internet speed to match their size." She cited filmmaking, entrepreneurship, and the desire for better bandwidth at home, as prime reasons the cities need Fiber. And if Fiber does come to Chicago and L.A., they will be the biggest markets Google has worked with yet.

Again, if you're in Chicago or L.A., keep the impatience in check (as hard as that may be.) Other cities, including Salt Lake City, UT, San Antonio, TX, and Nashville, TN, are all higher up on the list as upcoming Fiber cities. Chicago and L.A. will have to wait their turn.
