Microsoft's retail stores have been slowly growing across the country, and now the Redmond-based company is getting closer to opening the "flagship" store they've been talking about for nearly a year. Located on Fifth Avenue in New York City, just a few blocks from Apple's own flagship store, Microsoft now says their new boutique will be ready for business this fall.

They're likely shooting for an opening before the holiday shopping season goes into full swing. Between the launch of Windows 10 and the fact that video games usually have a strong Q4, there will be plenty for Microsoft to show off at the end of the year. Even Surface looks like it's on its way to a strong year.

In an area that already contains a number of luxury brands, Microsoft will have to do something to stand out. No one is saying much about what they are planning to make this location qualify as their flagship, but Microsoft officials have previously mentioned "experiential spaces" will be part of the equation. What that means exactly is being left up to the imagination. Between Microsoft's relationship with Oculus VR and their own HoloLens they have the potential to create some very unique experiences if that's what they're going for.

We're certainly looking forward to seeing what Microsoft has planned to wow consumers on Fifth Avenue. Technology has become just as chic as any of the high fashion brands these days so they should feel right at home.
