If close lid on laptop will software be able to backup

If I close the lid on laptop can I my full backup program still do a backup but my external hard drive which is the destination drive and it's is plugged in usb port

I believe so as long as you’ve got it setup where it won’t shut off when lid is closed

If the system goes into hibernate, ALL PROCESSING IS SUSPENDED.
